Academy Awards 2012 Belong to The Artist

Hollywood's highest movie awards, 84th Academy Awards were held last night (26/3). Many new faces appeared and also the return of some actor / actress won Oscar years ago. One of them is Meryl Streep.

The actress who still looks beautiful at the age of the 62 managed to beat Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Viola Davis (The Help), Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and Michelle Williams (My Week with Marlyn) for Best Actress category thanks to her appearance in The Iron Lady. This is her third victory as Best Actress, which previously she got in 1979 and 1982. Meryl Streep's succeeded in playing the character of Margaret Thatcher, two thumbs up!

In addition, The Iron Lady also has won Oscar for Best Make Up. Well, not surprising because this film used outstanding make up techniques (you can see changes in age-adjusted to the changes in physical appearance, to the main character without the need of cast replacement; thanks to skills of the makeup artist, Mark Coulier and J. Roy Helland .

French actor Jean-Durjadin who performed brilliantly combines expressions, gestures, and dance-in The Artist gained the highest appreciation for the performance. He won Oscar for Best Actor, beating George Clooney (The Descendants), Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Brad Pitt (Moneyball), Demian Bichir (A Better Life). Jean came to stage with Oogie, George Valentin’s dog (character he played in this film).

Oscar 84th night belonged to The Artist. In addition to Best Actor, the film also won four Oscars, for Best Picture, Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, and Best Director (Michel Hazanavicius).

The competing movie, Hugo also have won five trophies, for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects. We are talking about the genius that worked on this film, Martin Scorsese. No wonder!

For the category of Best Supporting Actor, Christopher Plummer (Beginners) beat Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marlyn), Jonah Hill (Moneyball), Nick Nolte (Warrior), and Max von Sydow (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close). Plummer is the oldest actor in Oscar recipients (82 years). For Best Supporting Actress, Octavia Spencer (The Help) managed to win this trophy from Berenice Bejo (The Artist), Jessica Chastain (The Help), Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids), and Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs). She was wearing sparkling white dress and gives her victory speech emotionally.
